I was stalking a butterfly in the front yard when I saw this squirrel holding on to a pecan in its soft green outer shell. I've seen our two resident squirrels with a couple of these over the past few of days. Hurricane Ike (happy anniversary!) knocked out all of our pecans last year. The tree must still be stressed because there are only one or two of these that you can see in the tree. Normally there are hundreds. The squirrels must know that this is all they are going to get this year. I don't think they usually go after pecans in this state.Pretty backyard flower.
